Who are gorilla kustoms

How it started.

The passion for cars started when I was a toddler, around 2 or 3 years old. I remember sitting on my grandads (Gaga) knee holding the steering wheel whilst he moved the car he was about to work on. I watched intently as he used his tools and went about explain what he was doing and I bombarded him with ongoing questions, as much as a toddler could. Gaga was my mentor and my inspiration to build something of my own.

As I grew, the fire burned brighter for the love of cars.

My first job was a part time job at the age of 14 years, but I told the boss that I was 15 so he would give me the job. I was just itching to work and get money. This is where I met Dave from South Wales Kustoms . I spent many summer days, Evenings, and weekends, helping and learning as much as I could.

When I turned 16, I went to College/Tafe to learn to spray paint then a couole years later welding /Fabrication.

My next mentor was an awesome teacher where I advanced my knowledge of spray painting. I remember the first lesson. We were all to spray a panel of a car and I was first. I was told to spray a wing then hand to the next student to continue and so on, but after I sprayed the wing and my teacher inspected it, I got a tap on the shoulder and was instructed by my teacher to do the whole car as my teacher wanted to see what I could do. Once I completed the car, I went outside of the spray booth as my teacher inspected the work. When the spray booth had cleared, the students were told to go into the booth to look over the work and I was ushered outside by the teacher as he wanted to talk to me. I remember the conversation, “who taught you to spray? As this is the work of a 4th year apprentice”

I was shocked as I thought it could have been better. I completed my qualifications in 1992 and was signed off by my teacher for refinishing  and Dave signed me of in may 1993 for refinishing.

I then completed all my qualifications in welding in 1994. advanced tickets in 1996

I built my first custom/restoration project when I was still in my late teens. It was a custom mini van in green metal flake. That was it, I was hooked on cars!

Motor sports, a few rally events, more custom builds, mini’s, escorts and vans were the next few years.

After running a small shop Underground kustoms,  we modified and built cars ,custom car works to order or sell, I made the decision to move to Australia.

Custom fabrication work continued in W.A  before I made the move to NSW.

Custom fabrication work continued and expanded back into refinishing and full custom work.

Gorilla Kustoms was born.
